Nebbi hospital launches know your child status
Nebbi hospital has
launched know your child HIV status (KYCS) and will run as one of the
routine services at the hospital. The exercise that started on August
12, 2013, before the launch on August 16, 2013 saw a total of 4107
children tested of which seven (7) were found to HIV positive.
Speaking at the
function, the District Health Officer Dr. Jakor Oryema decried the
low numbers of children accessing HIV/AIDS service in the district.
He observed that most parents gauge their children’s status by
their own. “The chances are that the parent may be positive and the
child is negative, therefore sometime should be done as early after
birth to better the chances of survival of the child”. Jakor urged
all parents to ensure that their children are test before their first
birth day. He said this would increase the chance of survival for the
children who are born positive.
The LCV Chairperson Hon
Okumu Robert commended SUSTAIN for supporting the progamme and
advised parents to honor the rights of children by ensuring that they
have access to health care, education, food and shelter. He observed
many parents instead of upholding the rights of children have turned
to be the abuser. He also urged people to adopt early medical seeking
behaviors to avoid complication. He noted that many seek medical
attention when the situation is out of hand which makes it difficult
for medical workers.
